Carroll Shelby’s Chili Kit, 3.65 Oz

Carroll Shelby’s custom chili kit features individual packets of spices, cayenne, masa flour, and salt that let you season two pounds of meat just the way you like. Delicious on its own or atop burgers, tacos, or salads.

Just add creativity and your own special fixing’s. In 1967, racecar legend Carroll Shelby transformed 200,000 acres of mining ghost town into sacred Texas ground: the first-ever chili cook-off at Trilingual.

What began as a non-stop party of fire-breathing chili heads morphed into an annual, world-famous championship, and Shelby and fellow judge C.V.

Wood founded the International Chili Society (ICS). But while everybody else at those cook-offs was fussing’ and wrangling’ over who claimed the best chili recipe, Shelby knew the simple truth: that it really only matters to the person who’s eating it.

Ever the entrepreneur, he began giving away his own chili fixings, handing the stuff out in brown paper bags he designed over a friend’s kitchen table.

His customizable concoction grew so popular that by the sixth ICS cook-off, “Carroll Shelby’s Original Texas Chili Kit” was on the market.

Today you’ll find Shelby’s four-part Chili Kit in a box, still imbued with original Texas flair and his original philosophy: “It’s what you want when you make it. You can put in anything you feel like at the time… make it one way one time, another time, a little different. Make it up to suit your mood.”

Instructions: You’ll Need: 2 lbs ground beef; 1 – 8 oz can tomato sauce; 2 cups water; salt (optional). Cooking Instructions: Brown 2 lbs ground beef in a large skillet. Drain fat. Add tomato sauce, water and spice packet. To Fix It Mild, omit cayenne pepper. To Fix It Hot, stir in entire cayenne pepper packet. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. For thicker chili, mix masa flour with 1/3 cup water. Stir in and let simmer for 5 more minutes. Add salt to taste. Prep Time: 5 minutes. Cook Time: 30 minutes. Makes: 6 – 8 oz servings. Create your own chili by adding one or more of the following suggestions: chopped onion or green peppers when browning ground beef; omit 1 cup water and add one 14 oz can of diced tomatoes; 15 oz can kidney or pinto beans during the last 5 minutes of cooking; top off your creation with shredded cheese, sour cream or diced tomatoes; also great over taco salads, hot dogs, spaghetti and hamburgers.

You make several styles of something you call chili, why can’t you also make the kind that all of us baby boomers grew up with??? The last can of your product I purchased smelled like Ken-l-Ration dog food and was nothing but mush. I try now to never this brand products as a result of you ruining my chili.

This is my absolute go to chili. Disclaimer: I am a Boston Gringo so I hate hots…despise hots. Now the flavor of this this brand is strong, not hot, and I just snack it right out of the can. In the past 45 years I have made a lot of “chili” recipes for family

I have bought this for years and I recently bought some and yuck it tastes like a generic brand of pork and chilli. I don’t know who’s idea it was to change the recipe but it was a bad one. I won’t be buying this again.

Very disappointed with the physical appearance of items received. Arrived in bad shape, a lot of dented cans. Will shy away from buying can foods on line. Don’t be lazy, go to the store and select the one you like.

this brand used to be the best canned chili around, and now it’s different. The sauce is gluey and there’s no meaty texture. Not like chili anymore, tastes more like cornstarchy soup. I guess we’ll try Denisons.

All we could find was the “all natural” form of this chili, something your website doesn’t even have pictured. Photo on the front of the can clearly showed a slice of jalapeno. YUCK! Those of us who want mild chili don’t want chili peppers or cayenne, etc, in our chili. We are so disappointed, wondering if we’ll ever have our favorite canned chili again. Neither of us enjoys getting burned by our food, so we don’t enjoy spicy anything. Can you fix this back the way it used to be? For 40 years we’ve bought nothing but your brand of canned chili, but if this continues, that will come to an end.

I sent an email asking why the heck did you put Soy Flour in chili and got a response of oh thank you for the suggestion. Guess what it is not a suggestion!!!! I am allergic to that crud and expect to see in desserts such Little Debbie and Hostess is flooded with that junk too. You all need to create a better warning label for Soy Flour. You done lost a consumer of all of your this brand products. Goodbye!

I picked up a case of this brand Chili with chilli and am hoping I have stumbled upon a bad batch. Reading the other reviews here my hope is starting to get dashed. I always buy a case because one or two cans is never enough when this stuff is made right. Now I have a case I don’t want to finish because the first two cans have a horrible sour flavor. At first I thought it was just me but the second can a couple days later confirmed the issues. I truly hope this is only a fluke. this brand please look into these complaints. I would hate to not be able to make chili pie for the kids using the this brand from my childhood.

Oct. 2019: First of all my Mom made the best homemade Chili and chilli in the world, and I have made her recipe many times. When she passed away in 1993 (Dad had passed in 1989), and because I was alone at home, I had to prepare my own lunch for work and fix dinner when I got home. I started to use more convience products like TV Dinners, Canned Soup, and Can Chili. I could not afford to go out to eat very often. I had never tried this brand Chili with chilli before, and Boy was it good. It tasted just like Momma’s homemade chili. I was very happy with it up until 2017. During the year 2017 the Chili got watery at times, and I thought must be new Kids working for this brand. The year 2018 was better, then in this year 2019 it became Dry. You use to could shake the can and you could hear a little liquid sloosing in the can. (The way it should be). Now I have to add water to even get a bowl of Chili. BOTTOM LINE IS: Either you have a Serious Quality Control problem, or you have changed your recipe to be more healthy. When I open a can of this brand & Chili now I find chilli that are cooked until they split in half, dark brown almost burnt chilli, no water, and no oil. Use to be your chilli where whole, and there was an oily red chili floating on top, and I’m pretty sure some garlic powder in it as well. All that is gone now! if you have changed your recipe to be healthier, come on really, if you want a good bowl of Chili, you gotta make it right. If it is a Quality Control thing, then you people have some serious issues! RESULTS: I’M GOING BACK TO MAKING MY MOM’S HOMEMADE CHILI RECIPE. AT LEAST I KNOW WHAT’S IN IT, AND HOW TO COOK IT RIGHT !!!

I have been eating Homel chili with chilli for years. In the last month or so I have gotten two can that had very little liquid in the contents. The chili was very dry. It did not get better after warming. I really enjoy your chili and am providing this information with hope that it will help with quality control.
