Advil DUAL ACTION with Acetaminophen, 216 Caplets

Product Details

Advil Dual Action is the first ingredient innovation in the OTC oral pain relief category in 25 years1. For the first time in the United States, the top two doctor recommended and most widely used OTC oral pain relievers, have been combined into a single pill. Advil Dual Action is the only FDA approved2 combination of Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen that fights pain in two ways in a single, fixed dose pain reliever. Ibuprofen targets pain at the source, while Acetaminophen blocks the transmission of pain signals.

Advil Dual Action temporarily relieves minor aches and pains due to:

  • headache
  • toothache
  • backache
  • menstrual cramps
  • muscular aches
  • minor arthritis pains

Advil is the top selling OTC pain reliever and provides safe and effective pain management.

Patients and doctors have trusted Advil brand to deliver powerful relief from several kinds of pain, including headache, muscle aches, minor arthritis and other joint pain, and backache for more than 35 years. To maximize the benefit and reduce risk, it is important to use OTC medicines responsibly and according to the label and to speak with a doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

How is Advil Dual Action different from original Advil?

Advil Dual Action with Acetaminophen is the first and only combination of ibuprofen and acetaminophen approved by FDA, taking two of the most trusted and widely used pain relief ingredients and combining them into one tablet.

With this breakthrough formula, Advil Dual Action is designed to fight pain in two ways: ibuprofen works throughout the body to target pain at the source, while acetaminophen blocks pain signals to the brain.

Why should I use Advil Dual Action instead of ibuprofen or acetaminophen separately?

For consumers that are dissatisfied with the current OTC option for treating pain, Advil Dual Action is the first medicine innovation in over 25 years. Advil Dual Action combines acetaminophen and ibuprofen in a fixed-dose combination to provide multi-symptom pain relief for up to eight hours, rather than typical four to six hour dosing.

Why doesn’t Advil Dual Action have fever indication?

The FDA requires that for each indication, a combination product needs to be proven to work better than either ingredient alone. For PAIN, data shows that this combination containing 250 mg ibuprofen and 500 mg acetaminophen is proven to work better than either ingredient alone. For FEVER, data shows that this combination will reduce fever. However, since our study did not demonstrate it worked better than either ingredient alone, this indication/use is not allowed to be listed on the product.

Why have you added acetaminophen to your product?

Clinical studies and clinical practice show that ibuprofen and acetaminophen work well together to relieve certain types of pain with an established safety profile.

With Advil Dual Action, the therapeutic benefits and trusted safety profile of acetaminophen in combination with ibuprofen provides strong relief for multiple symptoms, right where you need it.

What’s the dosage of each ingredient in a single Advil Dual Action tablet?

Each Advil Dual Action tablet contains 125 mg ibuprofen and 250 mg acetaminophen, utilizing lower doses of both drugs without compromising the pain-relieving effect.

How do I properly use Advil Dual Action?

Use Advil Dual Action exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Take two tablets every 8 hours while symptoms persist. Do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours unless directed by a doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

GSK encourages everyone to always read all labels and materials, follow dosage directions, check for tampering and store the medication in a safe location.

When should I take Advil Dual Action?

Advil Dual Action should be used to provide consumers with powerful pain relief for minor aches and pains due to headaches, toothaches, backaches, menstrual cramps, muscular aches, and the minor pain of arthritis.

Can I use Advil Dual Action while using other pain relievers?

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using Advil Dual Action if you are taking any other pain reliever or are planning on taking any other pain reliever, especially prescription or non-prescription NSAIDs (aspirin, naproxen, or others).

Are there known product safety issues that I should be aware of?

Patients and doctors have trusted the Advil brand, the #1 selling OTC pain reliever, to deliver powerful relief from pain for more than 35 years.

Advil Dual Action is a strong and safe opioid-free pain relief option for adults and children 12 years of age and older, and has been clinically proven to have a favorable safety profile consistent with both ibuprofen and acetaminophen separately, at the recommended dose. However, as with all medications, Advil Dual Action has potential side effects. Before using the product, read the full drug facts label.

How is Advil Dual Action different from other OTC pain relievers?

People experiencing pain deserve to have a variety of options for relief that are both effective and well-tolerated. Advil Dual Action is the first and only combination of ibuprofen and acetaminophen approved by the FDA, providing multi-symptom relief in a convenient tablet form.

Is Advil Dual action an opioid?

No. Advil Dual Action is a safe, opioid-free OTC treatment option that is well-tolerated and effective when used according to the label.

Pain management approaches are fundamentally different for each person and we encourage patients suffering from pain to consult with their doctor or pharmacist to find the right treatment plan specific to their needs.

Were clinical trials required with the NDA for the product?

The submission in support of today’s approval of Advil Dual Action was based on data from seven clinical studies, three of which were pivotal efficacy and safety studies in pain relief. The data supports a pain relief indication and demonstrates that the fixed-dose combination achieves superior efficacy compared to the individual monocomponents of ibuprofen (250mg) and acetaminophen (500mg) alone (as evidenced by appreciable improvements in acute pain symptoms across multiple pre-specified endpoints).

Can I take this for my fever?

We can only advise consumers to take our product based on the label. Speak to a medical professional.
